Etihad adds Charlotte to expanding US route network

    May 16, 2025

Etihad Airways has announced the launch of non-stop flights to Charlotte, North Carolina, marking its first direct connection to the city and further expanding its presence in the United States. The new service is scheduled to begin on 4 May 2026 and will operate four times per week. This development positions Etihad Airways as the first airline from the Gulf region to offer direct flights to Charlotte. The route will be served by the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which offers both Business and Economy class cabins.

The move is part of Etihad’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and the United States, facilitating increased travel and trade between the two countries. Charlotte is a major financial and cultural center in the southeastern United States and is home to several large banking institutions and a growing business community. By connecting Abu Dhabi to this key American city, Etihad aims to provide enhanced travel options for both business and leisure passengers.

The service is expected to contribute to tourism, business travel, and cargo movements between the regions. The new route will become Etihad’s sixth destination in the United States. The airline already operates flights to New York, Chicago, Washington, and Boston, and is set to launch services to Atlanta on 2 July 2025. The addition of Charlotte reflects Etihad’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its transatlantic network and cater to growing demand for travel between the Middle East and the United States.

Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Antonoaldo Neves, described the expansion as a strategic move. He noted that Charlotte is one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S. and emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering direct access to global markets. The new service aligns with Etihad’s plans to increase its reach and improve travel convenience for passengers departing from or connecting through Abu Dhabi. The flights will be scheduled to facilitate smooth onward connections from Abu Dhabi to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Passengers arriving in Abu Dhabi will also benefit from the capital’s modern airport facilities and streamlined transit processes. The launch of flights to Charlotte underscores Etihad’s broader vision to build a more connected global network, with Abu Dhabi as a central hub. As international travel demand continues to recover, the airline’s expansion into underserved U.S. cities positions it to capture new market opportunities while supporting bilateral ties between the UAE and the United States. – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
