    February 26, 2026

WASHINGTON: UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in Washington during an official working visit, as the UAE Foreign Ministry said the two sides discussed strengthening the long-standing strategic relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The ministry said the talks reviewed ways to broaden cooperation across key sectors that underpin bilateral engagement, as senior officials from both governments continued a series of high-level contacts in the U.S. capital this week.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said the meeting covered expanding cooperation in the economy, investment, trade, advanced technology, energy and artificial intelligence. It described the relationship as a historic partnership and said the discussions focused on practical areas where the two countries can deepen collaboration. The ministry said the meeting was attended by Saeed Al Hajeri, the UAE’s minister of state, and Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE ambassador to the United States.

The ministry said the two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared interest. It said Sheikh Abdullah stressed the UAE’s commitment to continued collaboration with the United States to widen the scope of the strategic partnership in ways that serve the interests of both countries and support sustainable development. The ministry added that Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation to bolster regional stability, peace and coexistence.

    Broader strategic cooperation

The UAE Foreign Ministry said Sheikh Abdullah noted that the depth of ties between the two countries provides a foundation for launching additional areas of cooperation, particularly in priority sectors. It said the discussions reflected an emphasis on expanding bilateral engagement through sector-based partnerships, including technology-linked fields. The ministry framed the meeting as part of continued diplomatic engagement in Washington focused on strengthening established cooperation and reviewing avenues for further coordination.

The meeting with Vance took place as Sheikh Abdullah held a series of meetings in Washington with U.S. officials during his visit, according to the UAE Foreign Ministry. In addition to the vice presidential meeting, the ministry said he met U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. It said those meetings addressed ways to further develop UAE-U.S. cooperation in areas that include energy, artificial intelligence, trade and investment, with UAE officials attending alongside Ambassador Al Otaiba.

    Trade, technology and energy talks

In his meeting with Commerce Secretary Lutnick, the UAE Foreign Ministry said Sheikh Abdullah and the U.S. official reviewed ways to advance trade cooperation and strengthen partnerships in priority sectors, including advanced technology and artificial intelligence. The ministry said they discussed cooperation linked to Pax Silica, which it described as a U.S.-led international initiative focused on building secure and resilient supply chains for technologies central to the artificial intelligence era, including silicon and critical minerals that support chips and advanced computing.

The UAE Foreign Ministry said the meeting with Interior Secretary Burgum reviewed the strategic relationship and explored prospects for joint cooperation in energy and artificial intelligence, including opportunities to develop partnerships and open new markets in support of sustainable growth in both countries. The ministry said Sheikh Abdullah described UAE-U.S. relations as built on mutual trust and constructive partnership across multiple sectors, and it said the Washington meetings formed part of ongoing engagement between the two countries on their strategic partnership – By Content Syndication Services.
